Judging Pepe Le Pew and Dr. Seuss racial caricatures isn’t cancel culture so much as examples of what Maya Angelou said was how we do better when we know better.
However, to obsess on the moral importance of being woke about misogyny and racism while ignoring the destruction of nature, ethnic cleansing, the global threat to democracy, factory farming, a general psychotic disconnect from reality in the Western World, wild wealth inequality or the murderous military industrial complex fueled by tribal patriotism smacks of entitlement, naivete, tribalism and a lack of awareness.
Without fail, the world is always far more hateful, sadistic, ignorant and self righteous than the average human imagines it to be. We usually judge the present by how we feel about those we encounter. And the realities we try to suppress are rarely seen as anything that could be blamed on our tribe.
