Like a previous writer, Kathy Hattamer of Monroe, I too am concerned about our young people and the recreational resources that are available for them.
I have often wondered why so much prime acreage can be available for the many golf courses we have. Now talk is that NASCAR promoters are looking at more prime land; residential areas be damned. Oh, I know, money talks. There just isn’t the financial, social and political clout when it comes to our young people.
There is something that is being forgotten. Our young people are the future. With concerns about obesity affecting the younger generation, much of it being caused by inactivity, it seems to me we should be putting some of the blame where it belongs. With those same people wanting to indulge in their personal agendas, mostly for pleasure, maybe we can plead with “the powers that be” to put a certain percentage of their time and means into backing our Snohomish County Little League at this critical time.
I can only hope and trust that our county and city planners are making sure that land for parks and play areas are going in wherever ordained as more and more of our open spaces are disappearing to developers. Wouldn’t it be just as important as wetlands?
