At the Feb. 20 Snohomish County Council meeting, I had the experience of seeing John Koster, the councilman from District 1, take advantage of voting regulations and another councilman’s absence as he unilaterally killed a well-thought motion by chairman Dave Somers which would have placed a six-month to one-year moratorium on Fully Contained Communities — those hastily enabled land use scourges which are the keystone of destroying rural lands in our county.
Councilman Koster is doing no favors for the residents of his district or for those elsewhere in the county. Developers of the proposed Fully Contained Communities near Lake Roesiger and in the 7-Lakes area of the north county are the only beneficiaries of Mr. Koster’s action. This is an unfortunate alliance.
I would hope many citizens would take a look at the damaging nature of these projects and compel our County Council to simply put a stop to it.
