The Obama administration’s decision to delay the implementation of the new health-care law provision that requires large employers to provide coverage for workers or pay a penalty highlights the total incompetence of the health-care law, as well as exposing the law for the disaster it is. Because of the impending criteria of the law, many businesses started cutting back on employee hours to reclassify them from full-time status and this already has had a negative impact on our economy.
The very fact that this law is being altered by a stroke of this administration’s dictatorial hand should give all Americans (regardless of political leanings) serious concern if not heartburn! Where were President Obama, Rep. Rick Larsen, Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell when the public stated we did not want this form of health-care reform — not to mention the budget analysis which indicated that this law would increase costs, not reduce costs? They pushed through the law as their highest priority and to hell with the hurting economy and struggling families.
Now the results are becoming clear (remember, Speaker Pelosi’s comment, “You have to pass the bill before you will know what’s in it!”) I think most Americans would agree that reform in our health-care process is important and needs to happen, but once again Congress failed to deliver a workable plan. Each of us must speak boldly to this issue and stand together with a message that Congress works for us and we expect accountability. Given the recent scandals, the IRS and Congress appear to think that they are above the law. It is up to us, the people, to demand corrective action and we have not only the power to make the necessary changes but we have the obligation to do so for our future generations.
