Back in August 1967, I left Vietnam and was stationed at Fort Lewis. I was born and raised in California and after being stationed at Fort Lewis for a year, I made Washington state my home.
I have lived in Tacoma, Puyallup, Kirkland, Monroe, and now Stanwood, and the two things over the years that have given me great pain are education and transportation. We do not have a true way of funding our schools and we cannot keep good teachers because of pay. I have lost count of how many years this state has legislated on alternative transportation and spent millions of dollars doing studies with no results.
The oil companies continue to raise the price of gas and our government seems to do little to help us. What would happen if the oil fields overseas are destroyed, where would we all be? Probably sitting at home because we have no gas and we have no alternative transportation to get to work. I love living here in Washington and I love my country and am very proud to be a Vietnam veteran.
It’s time our government officials here in Washington get off their butts and work very, very hard and fix school funding. And let’s get alternative transportation going. It’s time!
