This letter is being written in support of Tim Eyman’s newest Initiative 1033, lower property taxes.
In the middle of one of the worst real estate slides in the history of the country, I and 38 of my neighbors received a shocking increase in the valuation of our property. The Island County assessor raised my own and our neighbors’ property assessment by roughly $200,000. This is roughly an increase on my land-only portion of 140 percent. Homes are not selling and real estate values are plummeting. Shouldn’t our real estate values be going down, not up, and why such a huge amount?
This is one of the many reasons why I am strongly supporting Initiative 1033. It reduces property taxes by controlling government’s growth. It limits growth of city, county and state revenue to annual inflation and population growth. Revenue collected above those limits would go to reducing property taxes.
Remember, the government has all sorts of legal support, only Tim Eyman and people like him are supporting us. Time is short — act now.
