Daily we hear news of the economy, unemployment, the $11 trillion national debt and our national sovereignty being shipped overseas. Freedom seems to be the last thing on people’s mind, but we must understand that it is the basis of our power and success as a nation, and understanding freedom is the only hope that America has for a real change.
As a veteran, I can freely say that freedom is not only won on a battlefield, it can be won by gaining independence from an oppressor, it can be in revealing truth that has been cloaked in secrecy, and it can be a legitimate way of life for people who have lived under someone else’s control.
We have a chance to support freedom right now. Currently there is a proposal in Congress to conduct an audit of the Federal Reserve Bank. HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, allows Congress to open the books of the private bank that has been setting America’s monetary policy since 1913. This bill gives Congress and the American people a look into the deals made, the reasoning behind monetary decisions and the communications it has had with foreign banks. For too long our financial system has been cloaked in secrecy and unaccountable to the American people.
Honesty and integrity are ideals that we adhere to and the standard by which our government is held. Through a system of checks and balances we force policy makers to abide by this standard. Shouldn’t we hold our monetary policy makers to the same standards?
