I was deeply saddened reading the article about the memorial service for Jayda Woods-Johnson who was killed with a handgun while hanging out with her friends at the Alderwood Mall. During this service there was a cry, “Long live Jayda,” but she’s not living. Tragically, she’s dead.
I have some questions. How did her murderer, a 16-year-old kid get access to a gun? Whose gun was it? Was it from his house? Did his parents not keep it in a gun safe? Nothing in any of the Herald’s articles that I read addressed this problem.
How was this killer of a 13-year-old innocent girl able to post a $500,000 bond and walk free? I mean, I could see posting a bond for a shoplifting offense, but even if you murder someone you can be let out of jail and walk the streets free as a bird as long as you post bond? Something is out of whack here!
How about some answers! How about some wisdom from Snohomish County law enforcement about how we can avert another murder like this? We don’t need to hear about “thoughts and prayers.” What needs to be done?
