Can anyone tell me how use of a utility bill or bank statement as acceptable ID is going to prove a voter is a legal citizen ?(Thursday article, “Voter ID now required at polls.”) Even a driver’s license is a flawed form of ID since so many states are willing to issue them even to illegal aliens.
We need comprehensive election reform, which includes either the addition of verification of citizenship added to our driver’s licenses, which should be the minimum allowable form of ID, or a state issued voter ID card, with our proof of citizenship and eligibility verified through birth certificates, citizenship records and if necessary, police records, to ensure felons are not abusing the right to vote.
This step is like putting a band-aid on an amputation. It will do nothing to protect voter’s rights or stop fraud.
