In the 12 years I have been a merchant in Snohomish, the Classic Motorcycle Show has always been the third Sunday in May. As a merchant whose employees are all young females, I can say that the participants and visitors of the show have been the most respectful, courteous, kind and responsible of any show patrons that roll through Snohomish. These are first class people and customers.
Every year, there are varying motorcycle clubs sitting down in our shop with each other, drinking coffee, eating, laughing and getting along better than any family reunion I have ever attended. Yes, different clubs getting along just fine. Imagine that!
If the Snohomish City Council, the police chief and the city manager further erode our Historic District economy, soon no business will remain. Personally, I would rather have 100 classic motorcycle shows than one car show; where the car show participants bring their own food, have a trunk full of booze, pull out their lawn chairs and do nothing but lean up against your building and want to use your restrooms all day without purchasing anything.
I urge the City Council, the police chief and the city manager to reconsider their decision. Base the decision on the current realities of the economy, not paranoid delusions of some far-flung disaster scenario, which simply does not exist.
