In the Nov. 6 election, voters have a distinct choice for the county council. Dave Somers and Mike Ashley have proven themselves to be reasonable, knowledgeable, fair and in close touch with what the constituency would like for their community.
Strides have been made in making new development fit in with existing neighborhoods, having the infrastructure in place before development begins, and increasing mitigation fees so developers help bear the cost!
One opponent, John Koster, has criticized the council for failing to plan for transportation needs. He had the perfect opportunity to assist with this during his three terms in the state Legislature. However, his agenda was very narrow. Running for the Snohomish County Council, and yet having shown support for the creation of Freedom County, seems to be a genuine conflict of interest.
Another opponent, Jeff Sax, would like to undo everything that has been accomplished by neighborhood and community groups and the existing council.
Mr. Sax and Mr. Koster would like to loosen the regulations for developers and decrease the mitigation fees. The result would be uncontrolled growth, less funds for roads, schools, etc. and the taxpayer footing their bill. The choice is clear, quality equals Somers, Ashley and Dave Gossett. Quantity equals Koster or Sax. It will only take one of them to tip the council back to the “good ol’ boys.”
