In the August 14 Herald article titled “It’s infuriating, but merging late is legal; blocking road isn’t,” the question is asked, “Who’s the merging jerk?”
As far as I’m concerned, the jerk is the driver who zips past those patiently waiting in line.
The ways to fix that situation on U.S. 2 are: move the barrels as far back as possible, making the westbound lanes into one lane to almost the east end of the trestle. Put stop signs before the merge. Then have WSP officers enforce the full stop provision of the law to allow one vehicle in turn from each lane to enter the merged lane.
Three cheers for the patient drivers!
