The chief of the Everett Fire Department, Murray Gordon, and our Mayor, Ray Stephanson, have elected to give us, the tax paying citizens of this city, a much lower level of emergency service while still charging us at a tax rate designed to give much greater emergency services. (KIRO TV report, “EMS services reduced in what some say was ‘bait and switch.’” Fair? No.
Mr. Gordon and Mr. Stephanson will take one fire engine and two transport capable aid cars off of city streets when they decide to, thereby returning the city of Everett to an emergency services staffing level not seen since the 1970s, while simultaneously deceiving us all by taking the highest property tax rate possible for Everett’s EMS levy and spending the money on God knows what!
What this means to us all is this: if you have a fire or medical emergency, the chances of a positive outcome are wholly dependent on timing, your location within the city and whether or not these city “leaders” decided to fully staff Everett Fire Department that day. I hate being lied to, don’t you?
Good luck all, we’re gonna need it.
