Snohomish County is facing a budget crisis that will be putting more people out of work and reducing county services. Councilman Jeff Sax is now attacking an agency (United Way) that helps people in need. Our state and county are facing hard times and United Way has always been a safety net for those people that may need a helping hand (helping to supplement services that the county can no longer afford).
If Mr. Sax is so concerned about the county work force, how many staff members does Mr. Sax have and how many does he really need? Why did Mr. Sax ask for an independent study of the new jail and then summarily dismiss the recommendations of the study? Mr. Sax insisted the county needed this independent study and our tax money paid for the study that concluded Snohomish County does not need a new jail. If this is being a fiscal conservative, then President Bush is a raving liberal.
Maybe it is time that we address a recall on the council member that claims to be a fiscal conservative, but may be the biggest spender this county has ever seen with the projects he endorses. Maybe it’s time that we, the citizens of Snohomish County, determine if we really need Mr. Sax.
Mr. Sax should be replaced with someone who can be a fiscal conservative without harming women, children and other persons who truly need the services that United Way provides. Mr. Sax, please consider resigning or the citizens of Snohomish County will force you out of office.
