There’s quite a hew and cry about the latest “click it or ticket” campaign. Apparently State Patrol troopers are going to be required to stop at least three traffic violators per hour. Some people feel this is unfair – a quota system, if you will. These people apparently assume the troopers are going to be looking exclusively for people not wearing their seatbelts. As a frequent traveler on our state’s roads, I see dozens of people speeding, tailgating, driving recklessly and generally ignoring traffic laws. I don’t think the troopers will need to focus on minor infractions.
Automobiles are nothing but a couple of tons of steel and glass. When they are driven carelessly at high speeds, they become deadly weapons. Personally, I would like to see an even stronger crackdown on reckless driving.
