We elect council members to represent the city in our behalf. Therefore, whether I physically attend a council meeting or not is not the question. I should have the option of attending the meeting in the evening, since many of us still work. My question is, for those on the City Council who have jobs — Ron Gipson, for example — does his employer deduct the pay for his absence while attending the City Council meetings? I agree wholeheartedly with the Sunday letter, “Council votes to disregard public,” which said we are digressing backward to the “good ol’ boys” era.
Furthermore, the “deals” made in the backroom — is there a “special interest” involved? I hope the citizens remember in the future, when they vote to re-elect/elect some of these council members, just what their agendas are and ask whether they are really looking out for the citizens of Everett or themselves.
