I am a Vietnam veteran, now a retired pilot. I have served in public office. I have worked the polls and sat through many public meetings. I feel I’m a good citizen. I do not feel disloyal to criticize our president’s attitude toward Iraq. I have no interest in going to yet another foreign war. The costs of war need to be spent at home on American citizens addressing education, poverty, communities and social needs, health care and environment.
But besides the cost of war, what is the morality of this all? We the American people already kill, execute and imprison more of our own people than any nation on earth. Do we really need to go abroad for more killing and more prisoners? This is a time to look inward at who we are. Why has the “war” on drugs been lost? Why was it ever started? Will we really eliminate racism and poverty? Do we really care? This talk of war with Iraq is a shameful distraction by an uncaring government. It is George Bush who should be ousted.
