On a day when reports surface about al-Qaida’s resurgence, The Herald chose to run a top half, front page story about the heat. (“How hot was it? Plenty hot.) Large numbers described various temperatures around the area, including inside a Honey-bucket and a refrigerator. And The Herald wonders why we are not re-subscribing.
While the heat made people uncomfortable, so does the fact that al-Qaida being as strong as they were before this “war on terror” began means that soldiers from our area are at increased risk for injury and death. The space used for the heat report could have shown the number of deaths thus far in the war on terror.
It’s no secret that newspapers and print media are struggling to keep subscribers. You’d think that would lead to an increase in quality reporting instead of trivial information.
