Why are we, the electorate, so slow in returning our primary ballots?
The ballot was created as the ultimate achievement of the democratic process. But it has become a thin and filthy veneer on the very plutocratic despotism it was created to heal.
Those who wield great power have spared no investment in reversing democracy over time until it has become legally acceptable to allow wealth to control politics through unlimited contributions to any process that may sway government in the direction of their gratification. It is now officially sanctioned to allow candidates to tell any lie that crosses their avaricious little minds.
We are asked to select people to join into a federation of lawmakers so hopelessly controlled by party affiliation that we end up governed by party leaders elected by nobody.
We are not discouraged. Our courage is just fine, thank you. We are dismayed, angry, and feeling held captive by thieves wearing fine robes. This is not the American dream we worked so hard to create.
