I strongly applaud cities providing skate parks for our youth. (“Marysville rolls out its skate park”, Ag. 25). Children need a place to expend all of that surplus energy. However I believe they should conform to rules and safety regulations in appreciation for the parks being built for their recreation. Wearing helmets and proper safety equipment are part of that responsibility.
If we fail to insist on their full compliance we do our children a very real disservice and we’d better brace ourselves for coming monstrous law suits.
I was disturbed that The Herald chose to cover the story by showing a large color photo of a youth who was not in compliance with normal safety procedures. This is tantamount to Herald approval of his actions. I can hear him bragging to his peers “You don’t see any helmet, do you?”
Please bear in mind that along with your positive impact on our children to always guard against the negative.
