The weather forecast in the Sunday Herald for this coming Wednesday brought out a new meteorological term that needs explaining: spotty drizzle. It sounds like a name for a rock band or some kind of medical condition. I know in Western Washington forecasters seem compelled to come up with fun new adjectives to describe our most redundant weather conditions: Clouds and rain. But really, “spotty drizzle”? Can’t we just stick to scattered showers? I know what those are.
