The second-annual Gail Jubie Memorial Fundraiser, held Nov. 7-9, was a huge success. With the help of the community, we raised $18,459.20 for the Marysville Food Bank, far exceeding the goal of $15,000. We can’t tell you how thrilled we were to be able to turn this sum over to the Marysville Food Bank in our sister Gail’s name. This would not have been possible without the generous support of people from all over Washington and beyond. Businesses and individuals alike came out to support us by providing materials and supplies (such as the tents, tables and lighting), their valuable time, good usable items for sale, cash contributions, purchases and words of encouragement (and butterflies).
Following our first year’s success of raising almost $9,500, many people asked if we planned to do it again in 2003. We weren’t too sure after the first year. We have to admit, it was a ton of work. But after all was said and done, it left a feeling of elation in all of us and filled our need of lifting our own December blues.
The donation money is being used to provide food for the more than 600 families who requested Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets. The donation allows the food bank to increase the vegetables and soups in the holiday baskets, thus helping those families in need even more by providing more than just a holiday meal. The donation will also help tide over supplies at the food bank during January and February when donations are traditionally low. At this time, the food bank is providing assistance to up to 1,300 families a month.
We also want to thank Cec, Carol, Bev, Jessie, Bobbie and Karen and the many others, whose names we don’t know, who came by and volunteered their time to help out. Without your generous gift of time, this would have been a much more formidable task.
Finally, we hope that everyone who supported us sat down to a special Thanksgiving dinner knowing that your efforts helped to make it possible for others to sit down to a special dinner of their own. We can’t think of a more fitting tribute to our sister Gail. We are confident that she is smiling down on us. On behalf of The Jubie Family and Friends.
