Don’t forget Tim Horton’s: Just in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Zagat has released its updated guide to restaurants and other attractions in Vancouver, B.C. Among the nonrestaurant recommendations are Stanley Park, the Capilano Suspension Bridge and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden.
Those are all fine recommendations, but no visit to Vancouver is complete without the following experiences: Ordering a side of gravy with your fries at an A&W; getting hit up for spare change by a panhandler; and messing with a Canadian by telling him Vancouver is part of Washington state and pointing to a map to prove it.
Lend a big, three-fingered hand: The folks at Disney are offering a free day at Disneyland or Disneyworld for people who show they worked a day as a volunteer.
There’s a catch, however. While you volunteer, Disney asks that you wear a Goofy or a Daisy Duck costume.
Tongue in cheek. And on glass: Rick Steves says that if you brave the drizzle and cool temperatures, winter is an excellent time to visit Paris. Steves also recommends window shopping, which the French call “faire du leche vitrines” or literally “window-licking.”
Just something to remember the next time you invite a French visitor to go shopping with you.
