I recently read in The Herald that Rick Steves will be contributing $1 million to the Edmonds Art Center. Fantastic!
That gift is one of the greatest things that I had ever witnessed, at least on a local level. Obviously, Rick Steves is a positive role model for so many wealthy Americans. Are we perhaps witnessing the emergence or trend of a new and better type of American leader and hero? I hope so.
There is so much locked up (out of circulation) wealth in this nation. If only more of those who are fortunate and thriving would just be a bit more introspective, give a little bit (or a lot) back to community, and be a bit less driven to live perhaps a purely vertical life of want over need, then ultimately as a nation we wouldn’t be such slaves to some of our weak-kneed, Hall of Shame politicians and the like, and our now fragile national spirit, economy and happiness would surely rebound at a more rapid pace.
