What about other people running?

I recently received my ballot for the Washington state primary. I was very surprised to see that the race for U.S. Senate included 15 names, most of whom I’ve not heard of before. I think it is important that if they are concerned about this country, and are willing to serve this country, we should be able to hear what their platforms are.

In the Friday Herald, I read that Sen. Patty Murray has drained more than half of her $7 million campaign fund in July. Dino Rossi raised $573,672 and am sure he has more money in his campaign fund as I write this letter. Just below this article was one reporting that the county auditor would not be publishing a voters’ guide for the primary, in an effort to cut spending by $70,000. As people are waiting for their voters’ guide to arrive, we learn that if you have Internet capabilities, you can access this online.

I am in no way placing blame on the auditor’s office by writing this letter; we all know local government is desperate to save wherever it can. I don’t know about how the rest of our citizens feel, but as important as this election appears to be, and with just two candidates spending so much money, I would just like to ask … “What is wrong with this picture?”
