In all the pros and cons about The Herald’s switch to U.S. Mail from carrier delivery, I haven’t seen a great deal from readers about the fate of the carriers who are now unemployed. What is happening to them? They worked seven days a week, and gave me (at least) excellent service for years and years.
Will they collect unemployment insurance benefits? Is there a severance package? I’ve been told that for some of them, multiple routes provided income for their entire families; income that’s now gone. I’ll be sending my carrier a check, and I urge fellow Herald readers to do the same.
