In regard to the Oct. 13 “Anti-gay church group is coming to Lynnwood” article, I wonder just what Mike Echelbarger was thinking when he, as chairman of the board of the Lynnwood Public Facilities District, was quoted as saying, “They are a law abiding group. They have a right to free speech … of course, we wouldn’t rent to the KKK.”
I disapprove of the KKK’s message and I disapprove of this church’s anti-gay message, but what makes one hate group more acceptable than another? Why is this group able to spout their hatred in our public facilities while another group is rather cavalierly excluded?
Let’s level the playing field, ban all hate groups (my personal choice) or ban none.
