When detectives gather facts for a case, they recognize that no source contains all of the necessary information, and that sources usually contain partial truths and untruths. They may even discover inconvenient truths, which challenge their personal ideas about a case. Such truths require not only recognition, but always consideration and often action.
By nature, I am a rule follower. And, also by nature, I am an information seeker. I find it an exhilarating, albeit sometimes exhausting, experience! I implore you to be the same. Seek information about current events from multiple and diverse sources. Be diligent and discerning.
You just may discover some inconvenient truths yourself. For example, what if you discover the World Health Organization’s mask wearing guidelines differ from the CDC’s? What if you research COVID-19 funding allocations, and then ask yourself how that might influence an organization’s actions? Are suicide attempts, domestic violence episodes, and deaths of despair higher than COVID-19 deaths? What happens to one’s immune system in a sterile environment? What liberties do you have? What liberties should you have?
Inconvenient truths are everywhere. Will you invest the time and allow yourself to find some now and in the future? Will you allow yourself paradigm shifts as necessary? It can be hard, I know, but it is imperative that you do. Not only is it our right as Americans, it is our duty; and that is not an inconvenient truth for me.
