Once again I’m hearing the arguments for and against the $30 vehicle license tabs. One thing I haven’t heard is anyone remembering 1999 when voters overwhelmingly approved a $30 tab fee. It was eventually ruled unconstitutional, but what happened after is the focus of this letter.
The Legislature said that even though the initiative had been struck down they understood that the voters had spoken, and therefore they would honor the desire of their constituents for $30 tabs.
So how long is the Legislature’s word good for? Not long evidently.
