It was my privilege to attend the “Rally against hate” Aug. 20 in Everett, put on by the NAACP and attended by more than 400 people as well as most of the Everett City Council. The tone was upbeat with the focus on love and understanding, while definitely taking a stand against white supremacy which has recently become emboldened.
Rallies bring a show of support, but what about next steps? How about speaking to your representatives and senators about this? Write a letter, make a call, this is about reclaiming our democracy. The conversation could be uncomfortable when it comes to white supremacy and racism, but it is a conversation we need to have. And there are ways to change the structure that has brought these horrors about. Need help with your next step? Look to RESULTS (results.org), or one of many groups that can help you with this work. But please continue to take action!
