The sign reads. “Highway 9 casino.” For the past few months many of us living in the area of 95th Ave. SE and Highway 9 here in Lake Stevens, have watched with interest as a two-story building was being built. Many of us were curious enough to ask the workmen what the building was going to be. They must have been sworn to secrecy as no one could obtain an answer. Most of us speculated that it was going to be a restaurant of some type, possibly a family type.
However, at long last an amateur-looking sign has been hung on the fence along Highway 9 that sort of answers all our questions. If this is really true and that is its intended use, how did this happen? Who in their right mind would allow a gambling institution to be built in such close proximity to not only a residential area with small children, but also close to an elementary school? One of my questions is why has there been so much secrecy and why hasn’t there been any public meetings to disclose this venture? Is it too late to stop this from continuing to be built for this intended use or are we stuck with it? It would be interesting to hear what others think about this either pro or con.
