The letter in Monday’s Herald, “Here’s why country going all wrong,” raised several questions:
Who, specifically, are “Hollywood elites,” that we may confront them for dominating our public airways with junk programming?
The “hate America first” crowd is a new one to me. Give me some names and what they teach, so that I may be involved in ridding universities of educators who would teach a doctrine of hatred to the unsuspecting young, whose tuition is probably being paid by loyal Americans.
Why is it that the idea of removing prayer from public schools is viewed as the “removal of God from our schools?” I was taught, and I believe, that God is everywhere and dwells in our hearts. Why can’t the churches take the responsibility for teaching morality to churchgoers, advising them of ways to keep God’s teachings and ways in their minds and hearts wherever they are?
“Multiculturism” and “diversity” are the fruits of a democratic, free society wherein the rights of all citizens, whatever their races or creeds, are respected.
I am a Democrat and I know many others. I have yet to know one Democrat who wants to see the U.S. “defeated” in Iraq. Many Democrats favor continuing the policies of the Bush administration in Iraq. Many others believe that continuing the war will only lead to more death and accomplish nothing. Has it become treason to disagree with President Bush’s Iraq policy that began with a pre-emptive attack, a strategy considered by many to be illegal and immoral?
When will we begin to pull together to accomplish the goals stated in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, instead of spreading distrust and hatred with overblown, divisive rhetoric?
