Regarding the Sunday Viewpoints commentary, “We should treat all members of community with empathy”: Does Nina Martinez know that one in five Mexicans is currently in the U.S.? At what point am I allowed to shut the door and say no more? Ms. Martinez says we should treat all members of our community with empathy. Of course, native-born citizens like myself who want America to remain American receive no empathy at all. Instead we are called haters because we don’t want to pay all of the costs of massive immigration and be displaced out of our own country as is occurring across Europe.
Mexico is one of the richest Latin American countries and does not need to use American citizens as an alternate welfare system. Martinez says, “They didn’t move here to take our jobs.” Really, did they move here to not get a job? America is gradually sinking into a depression as the native born are displaced and replaced by offshore labor, Visa workers and illegal workers. Of course, Ms. Martinez thinks its the moral duty of Americans to go broke attending to the needs of everyone else in the world. I suggest Ms. Martinez put her effort into protesting in Mexico for them to do right by their people rather than lecturing Americans about how we are not welcoming enough.
