I am so very tired of hearing how the new Arizona immigration law is racist and will cause profiling.
Maybe I am wrong, but we do have laws here in the U.S. stating the requirements for legally entering the country. If our federal government is incapable of, or unwilling to, enforce these laws, perhaps that should be addressed more aggressively. If you think the new law is restrictive or leads to profiling I suggest you check out the laws on the same subject in Mexico! So where are resolutions from Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or anywhere else boycotting Mexico, or do they feel it is OK to profile caucasian people requiring papers showing, on demand, they are legal visitors. Can you say double standards?
The international border with Mexico is also an Arizona state border and as such, Arizona has the right to protect itself and its citizens. Admittedly, there need to be some changes to the current immigration laws, and I agree not every illegal immigrant fits a negative stereotype. There are some very honest and hard-working people in those groups just striving for a better life.
Bottom line, if you are here legally, no matter what the race, you should have nothing to worry about. If not, you should not be here in the first place. It is not racism, it is the law which everyone should follow, especially if you are a visitor to this country.
