I was just thinking that I miss the way things were years ago.
I remember when we had Senator Henry M. “Scoop” Jackson, a Democrat and Gov. Dan Evans, a Republican, who really did agree on quite a few things. They both were very well liked and I don’t remember either of them ever loosing a state-wide election.
I suppose today they would be labeled as moderates. I also think that state and U.S. Rep. Jack Metcalf, another Republican, was the best representative we ever had.
These days it seems the Democrats are too far left and the Republicans are too far right. It certainly makes voting for either side pretty hard. Men in my family have been union ironworkers since well before World War I so I am usually voting for Democrats, but a lot of them are pretty poor allies.
