As I sat reading the Sept. 11 paper, on the one-year anniversary of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks, I wondered, why does the mainstream media, including The Herald, insist on calling it a “tragedy”?
A tragedy is a hurricane, an earthquake, a fire, a tornado – a so-called “Act of God”.
While it is true that the death of over 3,000 Americans, of all races and colors, is tragic, the act in itself was an act of terrorism, not a tragedy. Those Americans killed that day had no reason to believe their lives were in danger, they were simply going about there lives when they were attacked by a group of religious extremists, in an act of terrorism.
The Herald, and the rest of the mainstream media, need to get real! Be honest and call a spade a spade. Because, as I am sure most in the media already know, those of us out here already know what happened, and while it was tragic, it was not a tragedy.
