The Ken Griffey Jr. love fest went into full swing last night, with fans roaring their approval, at least until Junior’s Reds started pounding the Mariners.
It was good to finally see Griffey again, but homecomings happen all the time in sports. Why, just the other day Damaso Marte returned to Seattle as a Pittsburgh Pirate and nobody batted an eye. He must really think he got a raw deal.
We’re looking forward to seeing Mike Timlin again next week with the Boston Red Sox. He gave up some memorable bombs with the M’s famed “pour gasoline on the fire” bullpen of the late ’90s.
Maybe they can bring Lou Piniella back and honor that bullpen someday. Of course, they’ll have to check Lou for weapons first.
Let me tell you about my best friend. Hollywood’s Walk of Fame will add a star in honor of Brian Keith, who played Uncle Bill in CBS’s “Family Affair” from 1966-71.
Not to take anything away from Keith, but there are others more deserving, namely Bill Bixby, who displayed his range in “My Favorite Martian,” “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father” and “The Incredible Hulk.” Where’s his star?
Plus, he seemed like a cool guy — but you did NOT want to make him angry.
