I am writing in regard to the Friday article, “Math WASL in bites aids kids.” I think that it is great that they are trying to work with kids on the math WASL. Our kids need to know that we are here for them. If you are a parent with a child trying to pass these tests, you hopefully have seen what these tests have in them, and know that trying to get our kids to understand is very difficult.
I am wondering, though, what happens to these kids who are on IEP plans — are they going to still be able to graduate? Our kids need to know that we are behind them. These tests now are even harder than what any of us have ever taken back when we were in school. And I feel for these kids. I know my kids work very hard and they still do not pass the tests and they get frustrated not knowing what to do to be able to pass. I just hope that education officials can take into consideration how difficult these tests are for our kids and realize that it’s the whole test, not just the math.
