The June 27 Herald reported that Workforce Snohomish will receive $2 million in federal and state tax dollars to help laid-off Boeing workers. I am all about helping those highly skilled and productive workers. Yet, it is quite a convoluted scheme Boeing has going for it.
Follow me here. Boeing threatened workers that unless they ratified a contract calling for cuts in wages and a severe loss in pension credits, it would run to a right-to-work state.
Second, state and elected officials, shaking in their boots because of the threat, kissed up to the company. It opened its coffers to provide a sweetheart deal to Boeing worth billions without ties to employment levels.
Return to the Ponzi scheme by Boeing. No promises kept. Boeing keeps the billions, continues to lay-off workers and says to the state and federal government; pick up the tap to help our former employees.
The scheme reminds me of the taxidermist and veterinarian who have offices side by side. Either way you get your dog back. Boeing wins either way.
If we don’t stand for something, we will fall for anything. Looks like we fell over again.
