British Petroleum, the giant UK oil company, has seen the handwriting on the wall. They recognize the reality of the effects of fossil fuel burning on our air and water and overall health of our small planet and its wide diversity of inhabitants.
In response to their awareness, BP is investing resources in developing alternative fuels and more efficient use of all fuels. As a mark of their changed strategic planning, they are promoting the idea that BP represents “beyond petroleum” a major shift in thinking on their part.
But our homegrown oil companies such as Exxon or Amoco seem to be falling badly behind in this race toward a different and better future for all of us. Can it be that with Big Oil in the White House, they see no reason for changing their ways or has American creativity lost its zing? We started this industry – we can change it too, can’t we?
