If you’ve ever been to Brier or South Cle Elum, you’ll probably agree that there is room for municipal improvements in both places. Yet these two small towns just turned down federal funds of $1.9 million and $156,000, respectively (“Why Brier and other small cities durned down federal relief,” The Herald April 3). Their excuse? “Gosh, we don’t want to do some messy paperwork to get it”.
I was especially amused by the Cle Elum city spokesman who declared, “We don’t need anything.” Oh yeah? Really?
Clearly the city governments of these towns find it too much work to actually get extra revenue for their residents.
Maybe doing so interferes with sitting at their desks surfing the web.
