On Friday, a King County Superior Court judge allowed for a temporary stay on the logging on the steep slopes of Picnic Point watershed (“Judge halts work at Frognal housing development, for now,” The Herald, Dec. 7). Sno-King Watershed Council applied for a stop work order to begin immediately. This means that three days of irresponsible work already done has created a nightmare for the Regatta neighborhood and for those who travel Picnic Point Road. The fact that this court process had to occur in haste when neighbors found out about the work on the night before meant even the judge needed more time.
Rather than being able to enjoy the holidays ahead, residents are facing fear of mudslides and flooding. Given a voice, the nearby, salmon-bearing Picnic Point Creek would also be crying. This project is a calamity! December! Who permits logging on steep, fragile slopes during rainy season? What can this County Planning and Development Department be thinking? The Tremble Time is here.
