In a recent letter in favor of commercial flights at Paine Field, the writer states she “doesn’t fly very much,” but it sure would be nice.
It’s an important point: by my reckoning, many people live in their homes daily. For the convenience of those in the most common situation of flying rarely, the argument goes, we should ignore the concerns of those who live nearby always, and of the kids who attend schools there as well, five days a week, nine months of the year.
It’s a pretty top-heavy proposition. And as to the oft-heard point that people who live here knew what we were doing when we bought: yes, we did. I asked my real-estate agent about it before I purchased my home 26 years ago. And he said, “Don’t worry: there’s a negotiated agreement. It’ll never happen.”
