Maybe it is time to rethink how the downtown sidewalks are cleaned. As you go through Everett early in the morning, the air is filled with the annoying sounds of air-polluting blowers “cleaning” off the sidewalks. Of course, cleaning means blowing all the trash into the street where the wind and passing cars cause the trash to swirl, enter the air and sometimes end up back on the sidewalk.
On a recent morning, Colby Avenue just north of Everett Avenue was filled with trash, broken bottles, cans, etc., all of which were just recently “cleaned” off the sidewalk! Motorists and bicyclists going through Everett early in the morning must wonder if our city has the filthiest streets of any city in Western Washington!
