I’m not sure if I have this straight: The northern pikeminnow is an invasive species that eats the struggling populations of salmon and steelhead in Washington, Oregon and Idaho (“Federal program pays $1.4 million to pikeminnow anglers,” The Herald, Dec. 22). So, as an incentive to get more people to fish for them, wildlife officials release more of them (the fish that are eating the salmon) into the Columbia and Snake rivers.
Wow. Great idea.
