I was very discouraged to discover that I am being grossly overcharged for my water usage in Everett. The response from the mayor’s office confirmed that 1,442 Everett households are victims of this fleecing. It turns out that the minimum charge for water in Everett is for 600 cubic feet per month. Therefore anyone using less is being charged for water that they are not using. My usage over the last two months has been 200 cubic feet per month. That means that I am paying for three times the amount of water that I am using.
It’s primarily the smaller, single-income residents who can least afford the higher costs who are impacted by this unfair billing practice. There is absolutely no incentive for me to conserve water. This policy defies common sense by punishing low usage customers.
