I was dismayed by the absolute lack of coverage of the prolonged nurses contract dispute with Providence Regional Medical Center. I did a quick search of the HeraldNet site and found that in this eight-month period of contract negotiations there was only one article addressing this.
As the second largest employer in Snohomish county this is certainly newsworthy for a “local” paper. Interestingly, in 2015 there were four articles in the paper. Might it be this is actually no longer a “local” newspaper, but only a corporate paper with a little local color. I have traditionally subscribed to this paper to be aware of my community news, which isn’t covered by the Seattle Times. Sadly the Snohomish county news isn’t covered by The Herald either.
Editor’s note: The hospital and the nurses union reached agreement on a contract Tuesday, as was reported in Wednesday’s Herald. Graham’s letter was received on Tuesday before news of the contract was announced.
