Despite my feelings of trust and admiration for Mr. Dave Aldrich, I must respectfully disagree with his “all or none” approach to regional transportation infrastructure improvements (“Building roads will help traffic congestion,” Forum page, June 15). I am mystified as to how he can consider freeway interchange and arterial expansion as “sprawl inducing.” We are merely attempting to bring them up to the required levels of service.
Would he hold all traffic improvements hostage until everything goes his way? His version of utopia appears to include a bizarre mixture of high rise tenements, no privately owned transportation (other than bicycles) and a significant amount of social engineering.
Thoughtful zoning practices and public transportation both have significant roles to play in meeting our overall future needs. However, don’t castigate all other improvement efforts as a waste when they are desperately needed.
