Reading the Thursday letter, “How about help at pump for elderly?” by Kathleen Anderson made me think of how many others have the same problem, and no one is addressing it. That is accessing the gas pumps for the handicapped. My wife recently got a handicap sticker cause she now has to be on oxygen 24/7. That means dragging an oxygenator around. To get out of the car to fill the gas tank is hard enough for her, what about those people that can’t even get out of their car? I am sure there are hundreds in this state alone.
We now have bathrooms for disabled people, why not a designated gas pump where the attendant could come out and do the chore for them? I have contacted Fred Meyer corporation and asked if they wouldn’t want to be on the cutting edge of this service. We will see if this gets anywhere. I suggest that those who could use the service contact the appropriate entities and see what can be done.
