I don’t see how Gov. Christine Gregoire can refute the fact that she supports a state income tax. There is a video from an editorial board meeting with the Spokesman Review in which she clearly states that she supports an income tax. Whether she supports an income tax next month or in two years is not said, but Rossi’s ads simply use her own words. In fact, if you watch the video you will hear her say: “its time will come.”
I don’t believe a state income tax is so farfetched. With a governor who clearly supports it — except during campaign years — and Democrat majorities in the House and Senate, and Democrat leaders like Frank Chopp and Lisa Brown openly in favor of it. The people of the state of Washington already pay enough in taxes, and to have an income tax would only hinder economic growth.
I want nothing to do with a state income tax. The sales tax, gas tax, property tax, B&O tax, and sin taxes are enough for our state government. What I do want is a governor like Dino Rossi, who makes holding the line on taxes his No. 1 priority.
